Q. How long have you been designing for Exceed?
A. I started designing for Exceed in spring of 2008, so my 10 year anniversary is coming up at the end of May!
Q. How did you get started in the business?
A. I first went to college to study Psychology. After taking enough classes to receive my Associates in the Science of Psychology I realized I really wasn’t following my true passion, which was art. That is when I switched to the Illinois Institute of Art and received my Bachelor’s in Fine Arts of Interior Design. I first worked in a kitchen and bath showroom for a year after school until finding Exceed. I have been here ever since!
Q. What is your favorite thing about designing spaces?
A. I enjoy the interactions with the homeowners, and that each project is different and unique.
Q. Is there a trend in the industry right now that you are loving?
A. I am really loving the combo of the sleek white and grays partnered with rustic wood and metals. The farmhouse chic look!
Q. What is your favorite project you’ve worked on?
A. My favorite project to date was the new construction home on Hillside in Crystal Lake that was completed a few years back. I loved everything about this project from the homeowners to the builder to the materials used! Everyone at Exceed had a hand in it too, which was fun. The detail used in this project was second to none. Our wood installer created a custom medallion in the foyer made from a barn knocked down on the property. We also used an Amish cabinet line with custom colors. The concrete trough sink in the master was amazing as well. I really could go on forever! The pictures say it all.
Q. What would be your advice to people thinking of renovating?
A. My biggest piece of advice would be to plan ahead! It’s never too early to start looking at pictures and gathering ideas. There are so many avenues for this online that are free, so use them! Also, find installers and designers with experience. It is definitely worth it to go through a company like Exceed that you can trust. There are so many details involved. A designer can help make this less stressful and more fun! They can also point you in the direction of a trusted installer. Experienced and talented trades make all the difference!
